Dyslexia Testing
Dyslexia diagnostic assessments are useful for adults and children alike. Below we explore why you might wish to obtain an assessment for a child or be tested as an adult.
Why get a dyslexia diagnostic assessment?
Getting an assessment can be a powerful tool to help you understand how you learn best and to unlock your potential. It can transform a confusing and lonely mindset into a positive one by explaining to others how to best help you learn and communicate freely.
A dyslexia diagnostic assessment:
-
enables you to understand your child's cognitive strengths and weaknesses so that they can be supported effectively at home, at school, at university and eventually at work;
-
can be used to create strategies to maximise strengths and target weaknesses identified in the assessment;
-
can transform confidence and self-esteem;
-
gives a greater understanding of oneself;
-
can help explain why particular activities are more difficult than others and establish what extra support should be received at school or work;
-
helps guide teachers and parents on how to provide the best support; and
-
can help financially, at College or University, because a diagnosis is accepted as part of an application for Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA).
The assessment will be undertaken by Liz Riman, an Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA), the body which upholds the standards of professional competence in both diagnostic assessment and teaching in the UK.
Liz holds an Assessment Practising Certificate (APC) issued by the BDA and is approved by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) to assess and make recommendations for exam access arrangements formally.
Liz can, with appropriate permissions in place, liaise with schools, colleges and parents to form a holistic view prior to testing. After testing, Liz will provide a comprehensive set of recommendations based on the results of tests carried out, as well as a clear and accessible written report.
